Task 22 - Blogs we like :)

This is one of my favorites so far. I loved the Tatsespotting site, in all my years on the Internet, I never really thought of getting recipes like that.
Makeuseof was pretty cool too, facebook page baby! Lifehack was less than thrilling for me, but I'm glad I know what it is now! LOL
Some of my fave sites are facebook of course and google image. I also love checking on my boys, Sinatra and Dean Martin on wikipedia!

Wow! I loved this one, so easy and really fun! I found some great stuff with this and would totally recommend it to patrons.

I looked in the Community Directory - Mesa State Collage site. It would be really helpful for the patrons looking to attend collage :)

Task 19 - Wiki Scavenger Hunt

Well I didn't get quite 100%, but is still did pretty good. It was really helpful to have to go through the wiki in order to find out the right answers. There was some stuff on there I really had to hunt for and others I knew immediately where to find.

That was pretty hard, but the AWESOME Corey helped me through it! Thanks girl! I can totally see how that would be helpful, I am going to practice more with it though, just to make sure I know what I'm doing!

Discovery Library Professional Site (Delicious) Task #17

Wow, I totally loved this! What a great idea :)
I checked out most of the sites, but 100 Best Blogs for Librarians of the Future and Library Job Postings on the Internet were the ones that caught my eye. I think this kind of information is great for us! The job postings one was cool because if you were to move or something you could know what was available! That is so cool for our ever changing world. And badly needed when there are so many looking for work.

Task 16 - Open Office VS MS Word - (Scary music - DUN DUN DUN)!

Okay so I kinda went into this a little more leaning toward MS Word, just because that's what I've always used! I like that Open Office is free to the public and I would suggest it to the patrons as one of the options, but I still like MS Word better. I just find it easier and more familiar to use. I will still keep playing with Open Office, just in case people ask about it. And who knows, I may fall in love with it the more I use it and ditch my MS Word all together :) Just Kidding - that would be a pretty big fall - LOL.

Task 15 - Clipmarks - WHAT??????

Okay, so I am totally confused. After finishing the video, I was like "oh, this will be great and SUPER easy!" HA!
I did all of the required steps and after nearly bashing my computer with a baseball bat, I'm still wondering if I did it right! It is such a shame to, cause this would be an awesome idea. Can anyone explain this to me??????? I'm really surprised that some found it so easy. What was I doing wrong?
Oh well, but I am really glad all of the tasks aren't this hard! :)
Well, I'm off to do number 16, and hopefully it will be slightly easier!!!!!! As a writer I'm excited to see the difference between Open Office and MS Word!

Task 14 - Downloadable audio

I loved getting Twilight downloaded. I have yet to read it, so it should be a fun experience! OverDrive is the best one I thought :)

Task 13 - Music downloads

Wow,

This task was probably the most fun so far! I love Science Fiction and I love NOISE! So Soundsnap was the perfect find. I did Sci-Fi effects of course. My faves were 'Sound design boom', 'Data chirp' and 'Sci-Fi' electricity. I think that some sound on our website would be fun. Maybe pages turning or something would be kind of interesting.
I loved looking through the different types of free music on Jamendo. I found some great new Jazz, Antony Rajekov!

Task 12 - Novelist Tour

Well this task was probably the easiest one for me, because we use Novelist all the time. I probably use it most for looking up different series. Some of these authors make their books nearly impossible to keep in order! Novelist makes it easy to give patrons a list of their favorite books and in the right order.

All right Nancy, I'm all caught up and I am SO ready for the next 12!!!!!!!!

Task 11 - Author Resources on the Web

Hello All!!!!!

I found out some pretty cool stuff on this site! I loved the Teen Reads. It's great to know what our teen patrons are up to and what they're interested in :)

I also looked up Stephanie Meyer, but really wasn't expecting much about her because she's still pretty new. I actually found out a lot about the women who wrote the books that are flying off shelves (if they ever get there in the first place. Most of the time they just go on the holdshelf!)
I found out that they are planning on doing a Twilight graphic novel, which is actually pretty cool!

Task 10 - Explore Research Databases

A-Z research is my new best friend! I loved going through all of the Biographies and it was SO simple. I was able to pull up my boys, Sammy Davis Jr, Dean Martin and Sinatra with no problems! And I discovered a lot of books I hadn't read about them, BONUS!
The EBSCO tutorial was also really informative.
Like I said, highly recommend it :)

This was probably the hardest task for me so far! After getting the right password, I put up writer's tips for getting your books done. Schedules and pages and so forth. I hope it worked out okay, I'm excited to share my ideas and tips for fulfilling your goals!!!!

Hello All!!!

I'm finally back from my Vacation, I had such an awesome time! Now I'm ready to tackle the rest of my webolution tasks :0
So I actually had kind of a hard time with this one. i understand how it can be so useful to our patrons, expecially those looking into the music business. It's a good site and I'm glad that I know about it know.
I tried looking up different artists that I might enjoy, but I didn't have much like finding the style of music I liked. I may have to spend a lot more time on CC to get more familiar!

Task 7 - Sampling of Reader Resources

So I just checked out the Boulder Goodreads, it was really interesting. I think something like that would be beneficial for library, but I don't think it could replace anything, but it might help it a little.
I also loved the AllReaders resource! In my opinion it way better than the other 4, it was so much easier to search stuff and follow. Now something like that would be awesome on our homepage, i know we have novelist, but AllReaders might be easier!

Task 6 - ORE tutorials

So I totally LOVED the the customer service 123.
It really helped me in how I help my patrons. They are so right, most people are really not going to ask for help! But if you look approachable and ask first, they just might let you answer their questions! If anything, show them one of the OPAC's to help them look stuff for themselves, maybe that would make it easier on them.

Task 5 - Holds

Okay, so that was actually pretty different from what I'm use to. I was expecting just to breeze right through it, but it actually took some time to figure it out.
I'm so use to doing holds from our system where you have more control, but in my honest opinion 'My library account' was a little easier for me to do numerous holds on. I don't know if it just looks a little more like our own system or what, but that's defiantly the one I prefer.
I also didn't realize that that one defaults to their home library, I wonder if that's why we have to many people choose the wrong location and need their holds sent to the Library they actually wanted!?

Task 4 - Facebook

Oh my gosh! I LOVE the Library's Facebook page, it's so cool. I've never actually seen it before. I thought the OM pictures were fantastic.
The coca-cola page was cute, but I'm more of a Pepsi person - LoL. I did notice that they had 3.591.034 fans, which is a ton! So maybe I'm the last Pepsi person in the world, well diet Pepsi now! LoL
At first I was kind of skeptical about going on Facebook, but I got on about five or six months ago and I really understand why it's so popular! I can totally see why the Library, coca-cola and all the way up to the President would have their own page. You can keep up with so many people at once! I have found so many long lost friends, found out about vital things I never knew and have gotten so much support, just through one website.
Okay, well this is my last post for now! Come on Nancy, I'm SO ready for the next 4!!!!!!!!!

Task 3 - Library hunt

So this morning, I did my library hunt before we opened. I was amazed at how much I really did have to look up. I ended up only missing 1 out of 15, which is SO not that bad!!! A 93 pretty much rocks and those of you with a 100 are just overachievers! LOL :)
I am really liking this blogging thing, but I guess that's because I love to write so much! Okay, now I'm off to do task number 4 - facebook! It should be really fun.

Task 2 - Pandora

Okay, Okay, so I kinda love Pandora now! I hadn't had much experience until today, but I really like that you can choose almost any type of music and access it anywhere! That kinda rocks!!!! I could find all the stuff I normally couldn't elsewhere. Yay, I'm movin up in my generation :)
